I wish we were watching the sun set on Tahoe
champagne bubbles tickling my nose
“I hate carbonation,” I mumble to you
smiling because
you already know
this is true
Smiling because
You know I don’t mean it
At least not now
I don’t hate much sitting next to you
Still, you find some Merlot
and I am happy
“This fits,” you say.
Yes, champagne is too precious for a day at the lake
Even the mosquitoes don’t bite
can’t stand the bitter taste
We all prefer it seems
the sweetness of red
that will age and ferment
into something
sating
